Fairy Stone Natural Calcite Wire Wrapped Earth Pendant
I wrapped a natural Fairy Stone calcite with silver aluminum wire. This comes with a 24 inch silver filled chain. This stone is from Canada and I have covered it with a micro glaze to protect the surface. Calcite is a soft mineral and a certain amount of care should be taken when wearing it.
Fairy stones are natural formations that were created by the growth of glacial clay concretions thousands of years ago. They consist of calcium carbonate, as well as other minerals such as iron. They often contain fossil remains of micro organisms and tiny sea creatures. They are usually found in Quebec, Canada, but also in Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, and the United States. The natives of northern Canada call them fairy or faerie stones, but other names for them are mud dog and clay baby.
Fairy stones are said to bring good luck and prosperity, and to protect against negative spirits and ill health. They are carried by many native people as talismans and are often given to loved ones for protection on a journey. A found stone is often given as a gift for a new home or a new baby to ensure good fortune. Fairy stones have a close connection with Gaia and their shape is often reminiscent of the goddess figure, as well as male fertility. They are considered sacred stones of Mother Earth.
