Jet is a type of fossilized wood that was formed by high pressure decomposition over millions of years. It is also known as lignite. Along with obsidian and black onyx, it was often used as mourning jewelry in the 1800's because of its dark color. It is not as popular now as in the past, but is still highly collectable.

Jets aids with mental clarity and emotional stability, and can overcome sadness and depression. It is helpful with meditation and can give insightful and reflective ideas. It is said to be useful against nightmares and anxiety, and it deflects and neutralizes negative energy. Metaphysically speaking, nuummite is a powerful stone that is especially helpful with meditation and spiritual communication. It provides strong grounding, and protects against unwanted negative influences, as well as overpowering energy fields that can be harmful and distracting. Nuummite can be used to aid in connecting with the natural world, and is a strong conductor of magnetic energy from inside the earth.
