Mystical Ouija Board with Planchette Necklace

  • $ 3000

Ouija board print set inside a vintage brass frame, covered with lamination to preserve it, on a 24 inch gold plated chain. I have added a tiny detachable brass and copper planchette in case a consultation with the spirits while on the go is required.

Elija Bond and Charles Kennard introduced the board commercialy in 1890 as a parlor game. Kennard claimed he learned the name Ouija while using the board and that it was an ancient Egyptian word said to mean good luck. William Fuld, an employee of the company, started producing his own boards under the name Ouija in 1901. Fuld claimed that the word Ouija came from the French and German words for yes, and also claimed that he had invented the board as well.

Historically, there has been much criticism about the use of the Ouija board and they have long been associated with devil worship, witchcraft and raising the spirits of the dead. Ouija boards have been criticized by scientists as well, who claim that it is the involuntary movements of the game participants that actually guide the planchette, and there are no messages coming from beyond the grave or anywhere else.

Whatever you believe, the Ouija board has been used at slumber parties, in parlor games, and for divination by many notable people over its long history. So is it just a game or something more?
