Natural Yellow Fluorite Octahedron Pendant Necklace
I attached a silver wire spiral bail to a natural yellow fluorite octahedron crystal. This comes with an 18 inch silver filled rope chain. The octahedron was cut from a larger fluorite crystal specimen. It has natural 3D inclusions, interesting surface markings, and rainbow prisms.
The mirrored pyramid octahedron formation is common in fluorite crystals, but yellow Illinois specimens are very rare. This crystal is from Cave-In-Rock, Hardin County, Illinois. Fluorite comes in a large variety of colors and has been called "the most colorful mineral in the world". Many samples of fluorite glow under ultraviolet light. The colors of fluorite are caused by different elemental impurities or exposure to natural radiation.
Fluorite is a widely occurring mineral which is found in large deposits in many areas. Fluorite has been the state mineral of Illinois since 1965. At that time, Illinois was the largest producer of fluorite in the United States; however, the last Illinois mine closed in 1995.
