Vintage Pewter Sundial Blue Agate Beads Pendant Necklace

  • $ 3000

I attached blue banded agate gemstone beads to the bail of a vintage silver sundial pendant. This comes with a 24 inch silver plated rope chain. This type of sundial is called a Saturn Sundial. It is made of pewter with a turquoise glass jewel in the center. There is a sunburst design at the top marked with an "S" to show which side to point south. There are Roman numerals around the edge to indicate the time of day. Carpe Diem (seize the day) is inscribed on the back of the pendant. It measures approximately 1.25 inches in diameter. The beads are 8mm in diameter.

A sundial is a device that measures time by using a light spot or shadow cast by the position of the sun on a reference scale. The earliest known sundials discovered in archaeological digs date from circa 1500 B.C in both ancient Egypt and Babylonia.

Blue agate can energize you and give you a sense of confidence and well being. It helps to create a more positive attitude and a hopeful personality. Carry one with you to sharpen your mind and lift your mood.

Blue is associated with the element of water. The water element represents the calm sea that brings us peace, but can also be stormy and ever changing. Water personalities are sensitive and caring people. They are often natural healers.

Many stones are susceptible to fading, and they should be kept out of direct sunlight. Do not use hot water or salt water to clean them. To use: Place the sundial on a flat surface. Because of its shape it will naturally tilt to an angle of about 45 degrees. Turn the dial until the number XII is facing north and the top S is facing south. The stone will cast a shadow over the number to indicate the time of day. Add one hour for daylight savings time. Alternately you can stand in a sunny,
south-facing location and tilt the dial until a beam of light illuminates the hour.
