Because cicadas are one of the longest living insects, people believe that they symbolize immortality, longevity, and rebirth. In past times, a cicada carving was placed on the body of a deceased loved one to aid in their journey to the afterlife and beyond. Cicadas often emit a distinct call when bad storms are coming. Thus, many cultures believe that carrying a cicada offers protection from harm and can serve as a warning against approaching danger.

The Cicada as a totem can represent personal change and transformation. It can encourage you to look both backward and forward to help understand that a metamorphosis is necessary in your life. It may indicate that it is time to remove the restrictions that you have placed on yourself, or those that have been imposed upon you by other people. By examining your past, you can start to move forward by being honest with yourself and the choices you have made. Once you are able to do this, you can release the negative influences that have kept you from realizing your life goals.

Green is the color associated with the element of earth. It is the color of life and growth. The earth element symbolizes a solid foundation and roots deep within the soil, grounding and calming you. Earth represents fertility and stability.

Quartz has been identified in Australian Aboriginal mythology and also Native American lore. It has been found in burial chambers in many European locations, including Newgrange and Carrowmore in Ireland. The Irish word for quartz is grian cloch, which means stone of the sun.
