Native American Vintage Copper Triple Leaf Pendant Necklace

  • $ 3250

A vintage Native American pendant featuring an open circle with three leaves attached to the top bail. This comes with the original 22 inch twisted rope chain with textured links. Both pendant and chain are made of solid copper that has been oxidized. It is marked Copper by Bell on the back, which dates the piece to the 1960s. It is approximately 1.5 inches in diameter and is in very good vintage condition.

The use of copper dates back nearly 10,000 years. It was probably the first metal to be used for decorative items and also weapons. Ancient Egyptians developed copper-working techniques as early as 3900 BC.

Copper has long been associated with healing. Many people believe copper can be used to conduct energy between crystals and individuals and can improve psychic communication. It is also thought that wearing copper can help with pain and can clear the body of toxins.

The Bell Trading Post was founded in 1932 during the Great Depression in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was established along the original Route 66. They sold Native American jewelry to travelers passing through.

The business struggled during the lean Depression years, but in 1940 the U.S. government built new military bases in the Southwest to prepare for entry into World War II. This created a boom for the business that continued after the war when more tourists started visiting the area.

In 1962 the company filed a trademark featuring a bell suspended from a horizontal wood post in the shape of an arrow, with the words Copper by Bell around it. In 1969 the company merged with a California business, and the company was renamed Sunbell.
