Bells have been used in various religions through history including Buddhism, Hinduism, and Shintoism, as well as many other Pagan and Christian sects. Their purpose differs among traditions, but generally speaking bells are used to call upon God or Gods and invite them to enter the sacred space where a ceremony is being performed.
Bells can also be used as protection against evil spirits and dark energy. Ringing a bell will often dispel negativity in an area. They may be helpful with invocations, rites, and certain types of spellwork. Many people hang a bell on a door or window for security and safety.
